It had rained too heavily for us to continue our journey back. The country roads were already too mushy to drive along. Though being a full moon night, moon was nowhere to be seen. Thick mass of clouds was covering the entire sky. All we could find to cover ourselves of this ruthless rainfall, was this small shed.
It had been a beautiful day, a recollection of all we shared for last 10 years. 10 years back, same day, she stood next to me and took vows to live & die together. So much we loved each other then, and how the times have changed now. A drop of water trickled from her hair, and fell on my lap. She was looking beautiful, like a goddess, as she always is. Her head was resting on my lap, as I was sitting on the floor of this shed. I always found her mesmerising when she is all wet or when she was sleeping. It was both tonight. I was again lost into my thoughts. It had always been so easy to see what went wrong and equally harder to find what's been right.
I still believed her. She too knew that I was aware of all what has been going on for so long. She had even avoided looking me in the eye and I wasn't sure if it was feeling of guilt, or the burden of being with me. She had known that I can see right through her, through all her empty lies. And where it all finally brought us to.
Another drop fell from her hair. This one was warm, it slithered across my hand, very slowly. I looked at her, her cold eyes were staring at me in disbelief.
Suddenly there was light flash in the room for a second. A lightning bolt stuck somewhere close in the woods. I could see the pool of blood in front of me. Loud roar of thunder and crackling followed. The blow must have ruptured her skull. She was dead already. It must have been a pleasent death. All day I took her to all the places where we've been to, when we loved each other. She had found her love for me, again.
My body was trembling already. My hands shook violently as I tried to get up. She shouldn't have betrayed me. She was all I had as a reason to live. I can't even blame her for that. The world had always been wrong to us, and now, if it had come to this, I won't stay anymore. Moon light lit up the room. The rain had stopped. I stood in front of window, looking out into gloomy forest and the bloody moon dancing above it.
There was a long silence, except for few drops splashing in the water. Sound of gunshot echoed across the woods and it was all silence again.
The Devil must've been smiling somewhere, succeeding in his plot.
